“My life has really, in many ways, been defined by some form of survival.”
|
This is a special one.
In the latest episode of FRODENO GOING MENTAL, I sit down with Lance Armstrong for an open, unfiltered conversation about survival, rivalry, risk, consequences — and what it means to rebuild when everything changes.
This is not a conversation about headlines.
It’s not about re-writing history.
And it’s not about glorifying the past.
It’s about mindset.
Lance Armstrong became one of the most dominant figures in modern sport after surviving advanced testicular cancer and winning the Tour de France seven consecutive times from 1999 to 2005. In 2012, he was stripped of those titles and banned from professional cycling — erased from the official results and faced a very different chapter of life.

In this episode, we go deeper.
We talk about:
• What survival really means — beyond sport
• The psychology of winning (and why it’s often about not losing)
• Manufactured rivalries and what happens when they fade
• Therapy, surrender and asking for help
• Identity after public downfall
• Slowing life down and capturing memories
At one point Lance says:
“My life has really, in many ways, been defined by some form of survival.”
And later:
“It was empowering for me to say, you know what? I need help.”
This conversation is raw at times. Reflective. Honest. And for me, it was important.
Because “going mental” isn’t about perfection. It’s about what drives us, what breaks us, and what we do next.
