YOUR “SECRET SAUCE” IS BORING. THAT’S THE POINT.
Everyone wants the hack. The hidden edge. The breakthrough method.
Listening to my long time coach Dan Lorang this week took me back in time: the closer you get to the top, the less glamorous it becomes. Dan has coached world champions in triathlon and cycling. Now Head of Endurance at Red Bull. After two decades at the highest level, his approach isn’t flashy.
He tests ideas slowly. Never five changes at once. The closer it gets to race day, the more he narrows to the basics. When athletes are healthy and consistent, they perform.
Not magic. Not mystery. Just repetition.
The best ones go for the win, but their drive is internal. Gratitude for the work. Obsession with the craft.
We romanticise breakthroughs. We underestimate the Tuesday.
Dan explains it better than I can.
